Waste Categorization and Diversion
You can track and report on waste generated by disposal methods in Gravity, and calculate Waste Diversion rates by mass or by volume.
Tracking Waste by Types
In Measure, add waste by different waste categories and disposal methods. You can search the list for types of waste. Gravity supports 6 types of waste disposal methods: Landfilled, Recycled, Combusted, Composted, Anaerobically Digested (Wet), and Anaerobically Digested (Dry). Water tracked in its own category. You can measure waste disposal by mass or by volume.
Report on Waste Generated
Navigate to Analyze, and set the filters for date, location, or any other filters of interest on the left side bar. Scroll to the Waste by Disposal Method section, and view Waste generated, Waste Diverted, and Diversion rates, as well as a breakdown by different waste disposal methods. Note that Gravity automatically converts between mass and volume for available waste types using standard guidance from the EPA and other trusted sources.
Waste Diversion
Waste Diversion is defined by the US EPA as waste that is not sent to landfill or combusted. Gravity takes this definition and automatically calculates a waste diversion rate by mass or by volume. Note there may be discrepancies between waste diversion rates when calculated by different unit types (mass vs volume), due to variations in waste density. For example, styrofoam is volumous and steel is heavy.
