Working with Sites
Gravity is constantly developing ways to make measuring your emissions as easy as possible. Now, you can organize your emissions measurement using intuitive categories like Sites, Fleets, and Investments – all while remaining in compliance with the GHG Protocol methodology.
This article covers measuring your Site emissions. See
this article for Fleets, and
this one for Investments.
What Is a Site?
A Site is an area, building, or piece of land where GHG-emitting activity takes place. These emissions sources can include electricity, heating & energy generation (e.g., natural gas for building heating, on-site generators) industrial process emissions, and fugitive emissions (e.g., HVAC refrigerants).
Gravity gives you the ability to quickly and easily track your Site’s emissions by uploading files or manually entering data.
Creating Sites
To create a Site in Gravity, navigate to the Measure tab, then to the “Sites” page. Click the black “Add Site” button in the top-right corner, and give the Site a name and address. You’ll be prompted to enter your Site’s address and, if you know it, the Site’s utility. Don’t worry if you don’t know your Site’s utility — you can come back to change it later. Knowing your utility helps us offer you additional information and recommendations about your carbon footprint.
Clicking on your new Site will bring you to the Site’s page.
Configuring Sites
Gravity Sites assume the use of natural gas and electricity. To tell Gravity that a Site uses a certain fuel source, process, or contaminant, navigate to the specific Site’s page. Then, click on the part of the inventory where your activity lives (e.g., “Heat & Energy Generation”).
- For Heat & Energy Generation: click “Add Fuel Source” and select your fuel source – whether natural gas for building heating, diesel for a generator, or something else.
- For Waste & Water: click "waste and water" and select your waste type.
- For Fugitive Emissions: click “Add Contaminant” and select your contaminant.
Adding Activity Data to Sites
Gravity allows for quick and powerful data entry by uploading utility bills. Users can also add data manually.
To add data to a Site by utility bill upload, navigate to the Site’s page. Click the “Add Data” button in the top-right corner to open a modal. Select your emission source. Then, either drag files from your computer into the file drop area, or click the file drop area to open a file picker. After selecting your files, they will upload and processing will begin immediately.
To manually data to a site, click “Add Data” button and select your emission source. Click “Enter Data Manually”. After filling out the form, click “Add Data” in the bottom right of the modal to create your activity data.

Sites In Analyze
In Analyze, each activity belonging to a Site will appear as a checkbox on the left-hand side. This allows you to toggle each part of a Site’s emissions profile on and off while analyzing your data.
Deleting a Site
To delete a Site, navigate to that Site’s page. Click the “Configure” tab, then click the red “Delete site” button. You’ll be prompted to confirm your deletion request, then the Site and all associated data will be deleted.
